Treasures of Truth is a quarterly Sunday School curriculum published by The Church of God. Its focus group is individuals eighteen (18) years old and older. Volume 18, No. 2 (January - March 2012) is a series of biblical lessons on topics related to "The Cup of Suffering and the Crown of Glory".
In many cases when we suffer we do not know the reason for it. Sometimes God reveals the purpose of our suffering at a later time and sometimes He never lets us know why we had to suffer. But by reading the Scripture, we can glean some general reasons for human suffering. Suffering is always at variance with our human will and desire. If we had a choice, we would never willingly choose to suffer. But when we do suffer, it is comforting at least to know the reason behind it. When God chooses not to reveal to us the reason of our sufferings, as in the case of Job, we can still know some of the reasons that suffering is experienced by the human race by what we find in the Word of God. Knowing this much adds a measure of comfort and gives us a tolerance or patience during the period of suffering which helps to ease the pain. The lessons this quarter will help us understand more aout the concept of suffering and help us formulate a favorable response to it.
